Decade of Action in Slovenia

In cooperation with the Slovenian Traffic Safety Agency and the Automobile Association of Slovenia, the Decade of Action was launched in Slovenia on 11 May through a variety of events including a national conference to identify risky road behaviour and its causes (particularly among young road users), and the launch of a website providing the opportunity for young people to offer their ideas for improving road safety.

The conference and public event took place at the central square in Ljubljana (Presernov trg), where people could use demonstration devices for the promotion of road safety such as seatbelts in car crashes. The President of Slovenia, Danilo Turk, the Minister of Interior, Katarina Kresal, the Minister of Transport, Patrick Vlacic, and the Director of the Slovenian Traffic Safety Agency, Ljubo Zajc, all attended the event.

The launch of the National Programme for Road Safety for the period 2012-2021 was also presented, which outlines the vision and objective for road safety over the next ten years and sets as its priority the carrying out of further measures to improve road safety. The programme's primary objective is to reduce the most severe consequences of road accidents (- 50 % fatalities and - 50 % severe injuries).
