FIA Legal Commission launches the Legal Award 2010!

Put the FIA’s spotlight on your club! Nominate a legal prize winner!

Deputy President for Mobility and Tourism Brian Gibbons and Legal Commission Chairman Christian Scholly teamed up last week in Brussels to issue a worldwide invitation to all FIA clubs to participate in this year's FIA Legal Award.

“Now that we are a world commission once more, - nominations are welcome from all four FIA regions worldwide” said Christian Scholly, "I am sure that this widening of the prize will generate an even greater diversity of nominations for achievements in defence of consumers' safety and mobility".
 
If you are interested? Nominate yourself, your department, your club or even your club plus other clubs. Present your winning best practice or achievement in one of the following fields:

• The defence of members’ legal interests (e.g. by winning of a key legal decision or key consumer right)
• The development of innovative legal & consumer services (products that can be sold to members and other parties)
• Monitoring and amendment of national, European or international regulation to the benefit of their members, clubs and consumers generally
• Significant achievement with strong potential for the transfer of the experience or practice with benefits for FIA members

What type of project can be submitted?

Here are a few examples among the most interesting best practices received so far:

• Combatting internet fraud linked with the sale of second hand cars   
• Petitioning the European Parliament to stop unfair national car taxes
• Campaigning successfully to change national legislation affecting motorists
• Bringing the sale of all international driving permits under the control of the club and thereby stamping out the circulation of fake IDP (Automobile and Touring Club of the United Arab Emirates )
• Lobbying efforts with the European institutions to ensure better compensation for victims of road accident that occur abroad (ÖAMTC, Austria).

The Prize

The prize includes an award, certificate and attendance at an FIA related event. Laureates in the past years attended a Formula One Grand Prix race.
