Transport Council: No Agreement on Eurovignette

Publication date: 11 June 2004

Meeting today in Luxembourg, EU Transport Ministers failed to work out an agreement on amending the Eurovignette Directive (COM(2003) 448 updating Directive 1999/62/EEC). The Ministers already failed during their previous Council session on 9 March 2004, mainly because of different views on how to allocate the proceeds generated by road tolls revenues. Beside this highly controversial issue, several Member States have re-opened questions for which an agreement seemed to be taken as read. The Irish Presidency has therefore sent back the text to Coreper for further examination.
