Sweden to develop national biogas strategy
Publication date: 07 July 2009
The Swedish government announced plans on Thursday to develop a new national strategy for "the production, distribution and use of biogas", in order to boost industrial competitiveness and reduce fossil fuel dependency in the transport sector.
The National Energy Agency, working with the Swedish Board of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), will present their proposals for the strategy to the government on 12 May 2010.
*Also on Thursday, Sweden's energy ministry announced a new regulation requiring all government departments including the judiciary to implement at least two of a set of 25 energy-saving measures by 1 September. Examples include purchasing energy-efficient equipment, renting energy-efficient premises, and carrying out energy surveys.
