Setback for EU driving licence

Publication date: 06 April 2004

The Commission's plans for a one-size-fits-all EU driving licence (COM(2003) 621 final - (COD(2003) 0252) have suffered a setback today, after MEPs shied away from a last-chance vote. Parliament's two biggest groups, the socialists and the centre-right EPP this week asked the in-house transport committee to hold off voting on the plans.

This week's meeting was the last chance for the draft directive to go to the vote before European elections in June. It will be now under consideration of the new Parliament.
