 The Commission's DG Transport and Energy published a new brochure: "Intelligent Transport Systems - Intelligence at the service of transport networks":

In this context, the Commission also released a video "Road Safety: let's start by respecting the rules..." (RealOne Player required. Free download). Through its action programme on road safety, the Commission proposes to reduce the number of people dying on Europe's roads from 40 000 to 20 000 by 2010. Better respect for rules on speed, alcohol levels, seat belt use, and driving time for lorry hauliers would go a long way to reaching this objective. The Commission proposes reinforcing controls in this area alongside awareness raising campaigns and greater co-operation between Member States on cross-border controls, data exchange and the promotion of good practice.
