Future Transport Commissioner sets out his Priorities

Publication date: 22 September 2004

In his response to a written questionnaire of MEPs, Jacques Barrot, the Commissioner-designate for Transport, has given an interesting overview on the priorities he wants to set during his term of office. The document can be found here, together with the replies of the other Commissioners-designate with regard to their specific portfolios (such as Taxation, Environment, Internal Market etc).

Background:
Prior to the hearings, each Commissioner designate is requested to respond to a written questionnaire. The purpose of this exercise is to allow Parliament to examine the designate's personal qualifications and assess his/her broad policy approach and, as such, provide a basis for the oral phase of the hearings (27.9.-8.10.2004). The questionnaires are composed of two parts: the "general" part consists of horizontal questions which are of relevance for all Commissioner designates; the "specific" part focuses on the particular portfolio of each Commissioner designate.
