CEA publishes Road Safety Compendium

Publication date: 20 March 2009

Presents insurers’ road safety activities at first Motor Insurance Conference

The CEA, the European insurance and reinsurance federation, has published a Road Safety Compendium, outlining key areas in which the European insurance industry has been particularly active in promoting road safety. The Compendium was launched at the CEA’s first Motor Insurance Conference in Brussels today. “Insurance and road safety are natural allies,” said Tommy Persson, CEA president. “Insurers constantly seek to reduce the number and severity of collisions on the road, both as part of their commitment to social responsibility and of their efforts to reduce claims.”

The Compendium, which is available to download from the CEA’s website, www.cea.eu, focuses on insurers’ road safety activities in seven areas, including initiatives targeting both young and elderly drivers and those targeting drivers who drink or use drugs. It includes statistics demonstrating the scale of the problems identified and gives examples of measures that insurers have put in place in different European countries to tackle them. The Compendium was launched today at a full-day conference hosted by the CEA on motor insurance issues, including cross-border claims, claims settlement and rehabilitation, and road safety and fraud prevention. Conference chairman François Bucchini, chairman of the CEA’s motor steering group and CEO of Axa Cessions, France, referred to the publication on 29 January of the European Commission’s study on compensation of victims of cross-border road traffic accidents and welcomed the forthcoming consultation, in which the CEA will participate. “The CEA looks forward to a constructive dialogue with the Commission on compensation issues,” said Bucchini.
