Anti crash radars available for cars by mid-2005
Publication date: 18 January 2005
The European Commission adopted today a decision (C(2005) 34 final) which allocates a specific EU-wide radio frequency band to short-range radar (SRR) devices. These short-range radars - that can detect collision dangers and automatically apply the cars' brakes - can be built into cars from mid-2005.

In a first time, the 24 GHz frequency band is made available Europe-wide. Beyond 2013, new automotive radar applications will be required to use the 79GHz frequency band already harmonised by the earlier Commission Decision 2004/545/EC.
